Just Another Rigged Pageantry System

Year after year, we have seen these pageantry systems choose their winners based on popularity, clout, race, gender, or status. In most cases, they have already selected their winner before the competition. For example, House of Chuck Magazine has attended over 30 pageants; some legit and most were fake. Some of them did not even have an LLC license or Event insurance. We remember attending one pageantry event, and they had over 20 judges, and most of the judges have never performed or participated in a pageantry system a day of their lives.

We remember one event where two of the winners won just because they knew the judges. We interviewed an entertainer who has been in the business for over twenty years and never saw a pageantry system be judged like that. We attended one event where they didn’t even have the prize money to pay the winners. We worked with one entertainer who won a regional title, and the promoter treated her very poorly and refused to back her while promoting that title.

We saw one promotor fire one of his employees on social media, posting his personal information on their business page, encouraging others not to work with him because he went public about the corruption. When we reached out to the promoter, we verified that he did not have an LLC license or insurance on the system, so if something were to happen to one of his employee’s he didn’t have the insurance to cover the medical expenses.

We attended one pageant where one of the male entertainers slept with one of the judges to win the competition. That same system also has only crowned a few members of the Black community, and the worst part is that the system is over twenty years old. These experiences are enough not to make anyone want to compete. Can you imagine putting together a fantastic package, then paying that registration fee, having your support system come out and purchase the ticket to attend the event, only to find out that they already decided their winner before you arrived.

Can you imagine finding out that the only reason why they asked you to participate was so that their winner had someone to compete against them and then later publicly humiliated them on stage? Imagine finding out that you won the competition, but the promotor changed the scores backstage because the person was transgender. Can you imagine losing a contest because of the color of your skin? After reading all of this, you won’t catch me participating, attending, or sponsoring this type of corruption.

Please do not let all of this distract you from pursuing your dreams because some good pageants out there do crown based on talent and not based on popularity, clout, race, gender, or status. House of Chuck Magazine will be auditing all of the pageantry systems starting with the St. Louis Pageantry systems. If we find anything like what we have experienced in the past, these systems will be flagged in the media as fraud. We will also be compiling a list of legit pageantry systems and competitions that entertainers can use to pursue their dreams.
